About London

London is an international and diverse cultural center of Britain. It is a city at the center of the world and a world in one city. It is a home to numerous museums, art galleries, theatres and cinemas, offering first class entertainment all week long. There are more than 300 nationalities and languages spoken and contributing to the diversity and liveliness of the city. Be sure to make the most of your experience of the English capital and take advantage of what it offers.

The diversity of London begins with its architecture. The city features an abundance of historic buildings, but at the same time keeps up with the latest trends in modern structures. In London it is a common thing to find historic buildings next to modern creations.

In 1666, after the Great Fire, most parts of the city were destroyed. Authorities reacted immediately and organized the rebuilding of the fifty-one burnt-down churches. Most of them, including famous St Paul's Cathedral were built in the English Baroque style, decorated with beautiful intricate ornamentation and curved lines. At the same time London is home to some of the world's most striking modern architecture, such as The Shard, Heron Tower and Moor House. Probably the most renowned of them is the Gherkin (30 St Mary Axe), designed by Norman Foster in 2003 and now famous all over the world. There are four UNESCO world heritage sites in London: Tower of London, Maritime Greenwich, Westminster Palace, St. Margaret Church and Kew's Royal Botanic Gardens.
